What You Need to Know If You're Considering an Emerald and Diamond Engagement Ring
You were born in the wrong decade. Your style — totally a throwback to The Great Gatsby era. Your idea of a great time? Sipping cocktails poolside, or dancing the night away in your favorite flapper-inspired dress.
You’re all about a vintage look, so why should you settle for the same trendy (read: boring) engagement ring as everyone else? Answer: You shouldn’t — and you don’t have to. Emerald and diamond engagement rings offer a days-gone-by style without the jaw-droppingly large price tag antique rings usually bring.
The problem? It’s usually difficult to find these types of non diamond engagement rings. Not anymore: We’re sharing everything you need to know about emerald engagement rings with diamonds that are totally you — and will stand out from the endless sea of identical engagement rings. We’ll also break down how you can work with With Clarity to craft the unique gemstone engagement ring of your dreams.
Why Are emerald engagement rings so popular?
That’s easy: They’re eye catching.
Love for emerald engagement rings dates back to the Sumerians thousands of years ago. They believed that emeralds had an anti-inflammatory effect when they looked at them — AKA they were easy on the eyes.
And that they are.
Emerald engagement rings have different meanings to different people, but they tend to signify hopes for a long, peaceful and loving marriage. They’re also eye catching, which is why celebrities flock to the fancy gemstone for engagement rings. Celebrities who opted for emerald engagement rings include:
Jackie Kennedy. The former First Lady wore an emerald engagement ring given to her by the late President John Kennedy. The couple famously got engaged without a ring, telling reporters in 1953 that they hadn’t found a suitable one yet.
She later found a ring at Van Cleef & Arpels in New York City — and it was worth the wait. The bypass emerald and diamond engagement ring included a 2.84-carat emerald, along with a 2.88-carat emerald-cut diamond. Accent diamonds included baguette diamonds and emerald on the shank of the ring.
There are few photos of the diamond in its original shape. The reason: She later had it redesigned to add marquise-cut diamonds in place of baguette diamonds.
Halle Berry. The actress received quite the interesting engagement ring when she got engaged to fellow screen star Olivier Martinez.
According to sources, the hand-forged emerald engagement ring was designed by French jeweler Robert Mazio and features a square-cut emerald flanked by two smaller diamonds on either side. The ring metal is also said to contain Phonician codes that tell the couple’s love story. The ring — said to valued at $200,000 — is a stunner, but sadly the couple split in late 2016.
Olivia Wilde. The actress’ now-husband, Jason Sudeikis, is known for his off-the-wall comedy, so it’s not surprising that he picked a one-of-a-kind style for Wilde’s engagement ring. The vintage diamond engagement ring — said to date back to 1920s Paris — features a round-cut center diamond that’s haloed by emerald stones. Why did Sudeikis opt for that look? It was green, just like Wilde’s eyes.
So you want an emerald and diamond engagement ring
More and more brides-to-be are opting for non-traditional engagement rings. It makes sense: a unique engagement ring likely better captures her personality than something pre-set, and there’s been a sharp rise in the number of celebrities also rocking gemstone engagement rings.
Luckily, you don’t have to be a pop star or A list actor to afford this type of engagement ring. Whether you’re considering an emerald and diamond engagement ring, or something using another gemstone entirely, With Clarity is here to work with you on bringing your vision to life. There are many ways you can combine emerald and diamonds in a stunning engagement ring, only some of which are pictured below, and we can work with you on any of them.

We’ve outlined the entire process of creating a custom gemstone ring with us, and break down exactly what we look for when sourcing your stone and how we’ll communicate back and forth. So let’s bring that beautiful dream to life, together!
