Settings That Look Stunning As Platinum Engagement Rings
Yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and silver engagement rings are the most common selections found on the market. However, in recent years, the demand for other metals has been on a steady incline. Some people need metals that give them more for their money; other people need jewelry made from materials to which they are not allergic. Therefore, the jewelry market is making room for more engagement rings made from different metals. One such addition is the expansion of the platinum engagement ring selection.
Platinum Engagement Rings
Platinum engagement rings are often made or special ordered in place of rings made with other metals. Any style of ring you can think of can be made, or found, with platinum bands, rather than white or yellow gold ones. The necessity for additional metal use in most platinum jewelry affects the price in some cases, but since the metal resists fading and blemishes, it remains one of the most common metals for jewelry on the market.
How Popular are Platinum Engagement Rings?
Since it takes more platinum to create a durable jewelry piece, its value has been undermined until recent years. Now, since the discovery of the fact that platinum can be work by people with severe allergies to other metals, or simply sensitive skin in general, its popularity is on a steady rise.
Reasons Some People Choose Platinum Engagement Rings
One of the main reasons people shop for platinum engagement rings and other platinum jewelry is the color. While white gold is almost indistinguishable from platinum when the jewelry is brand new, over time the yellow tint of the gold (which was turned white from its natural gold with special plating and certain alloys) starts to wear through to the surface of the jewelry pieces. Platinum is naturally white, so no such color change occurs. While silver is a white metal, as well, it, too fades, losing its white luster over time. Platinum, again crafted in its original state, suffers much less of the fading.
Another reason for choosing a platinum engagement ring is an allergy to certain metals. Once upon a time, people believed that an allergy to one metal meant an allergy to all metals. However, someone who is allergic to silver may not be allergic to white gold, or an allergic reaction while wearing rose gold may not occur with yellow gold. Platinum, since it’s not mixed with other metals or alloys, is a more pure metal, and is therefore less likely to cause a reaction.
